What is World Wetlands Day? February the second of each year is World Wetlands Day. It marks the date of the signing of the Convention on Wetlands on February the second 1971, in the Iranian city Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Each year, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and groups of citizens at all levels of the community worldwide have taken advantage of the opportunity to undertake actions aimed at raising public awareness of wetland values and benefits specially towards Ramsar Convention.
And As RSCN is a member of the Ramsar Convention since 1977; RSCN annually organizes lectures, awareness campaigns, and outreach activities in celebration of World Wetlands Day. The purpose of these activities is to increase public awareness on the importance of wetlands and Azraq wetlands reserve in particular on both a local and global levels, especially in terms of its importance to migratory birds, and to inspire their support for the protection of this unique and threatened habitat.
