The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature RSCN has recently updated the Biodiversity Information Management System (BIMS). The System provides a comprehensive database on the fauna and flora of Jordan, and it is linked to a web-mapping application that reflects their distributions compared to the locations of protected areas as well as other relevant datasets.
The BIMS targets different types of users ranging from students to researchers reaching to decision makers. The use also differs; it can be as simple as browsing reaching to the level of data entry.
This activity comes under the GEF/UNDP project: "Mainstreaming Biodiversity Conservation in the Tourism Sector Development in Jordan (BITS), which aims to reduce the impact of tourism on biodiversity".
